Unlock new opportunities with accredited certification – ISO 56001, BS 99001 and ISO 37301 pilot accreditation project

Accredited certification plays a crucial role in helping organisations demonstrate compliance with internationally recognised standards. It provides confidence to customers, regulators, and stakeholders that certified organisations are meeting rigorous quality and compliance benchmarks. By expanding your certification portfolio to include these emerging standards, your certification body can strengthen its market position, offer added value to clients, and differentiate itself in an increasingly competitive landscape.

Three specific standards are under consideration for this new pilot accreditation project:

  • ISO 56001:2024 – Innovation Management Systems: Establishes requirements for organisations to develop a systematic approach to innovation, enabling them to drive sustainable growth and competitiveness.
  • BS 99001:2022 – Built Environment Quality Management Systems: Tailored for the construction and built environment sector, this standard provides a structured framework for managing quality effectively.
  • ISO 37301:2021 – Compliance Management Systems: Offers a robust methodology for organisations to establish, maintain, and continuously improve their compliance frameworks, mitigating risks and ensuring regulatory adherence.

These certifications support safe innovation, ensuring quality in the built environment, and strengthening compliance across industries. ISO 56001 fosters a structured approach to innovation, helping organisations remain competitive in an evolving marketplace. BS 99001 enhances quality management practices in the construction sector, supporting safer, more efficient, and sustainable projects. ISO 37301 provides organisations with a robust framework to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, reducing risks and fostering ethical business conduct.

Becoming accredited to certify against these standards allows your organisation to support businesses striving for excellence in innovation, quality, and compliance. Additionally, it opens new revenue streams and demonstrates leadership in the certification industry.

What is a UKAS pilot accreditation project?

A pilot accreditation project is an essential step in extending UKAS’s accreditation offerings. As these standards have not previously been subject to accredited conformity assessment, UKAS undertakes a structured development process to evaluate their applicability and establish a proportionate and effective assessment methodology. The pilot involves collaboration with interested certification bodies to refine the accreditation approach, ensuring it aligns with industry needs and best practices.

Express your interest

UKAS invites certification bodies to express their interest in participating in this pilot accreditation project for one or more of the above standards. If your organisation is interested, please provide the following information by 30 June 2025 to [email protected]:

  • The estimated number of clients you currently have or anticipate for each relevant standard.
  • The geographical locations where accredited certificates would be issued (e.g., UK only, Europe only, or global).
  • The number of non-accredited certificates already issued for the standard(s) and their respective locations.
  • Your estimated timeline for clients to be ready for:
    • Stage 1 audit
    • Stage 2 audit
  • Details of how you currently scope certifications for these standards, along with example certificates.

Your participation in this pilot provides a unique opportunity to shape the future of accredited certification for these standards. Enabling accreditation in these areas is a vital part of UKAS’s mission to support safe and sustainable innovation across all elements of society. By fostering robust and internationally recognised accreditation frameworks, UKAS ensures that organisations can confidently implement best practices, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to a more secure and responsible business environment. UKAS looks forward to working collaboratively with certification bodies to develop accreditation frameworks that drive trust and confidence across industries.
