Call for expression of interest in the area of Six Sigma and Lean strategies

UKAS has previously initiated an expression of interest survey for accreditation of management systems in the area of Six Sigma and Lean strategies. A management system sector scheme, which has been developed by the Royal Statistical Society for the implementation of ISO18404. There was a proposal for this sector scheme to be covered under ISO/IEC17021-1 accreditation as a sector scheme. At the time there was not sufficient interest from the market and therefore a UKAS development programme was not able to be progressed.

Recently we have had a number of enquiries regarding potential accreditation in this area and therefore we are launching this new expression of interest to determine if there is now a need for accreditation in this area.

Therefore, if you are interested in being involved in the development of this accreditation, please could you provide the following information to UKAS ([email protected]) by the 17th March 2024:

1. The number of clients/estimated number of clients you have for (each of) this standard?
2.  The geographical location(s) where accredited certificates will be issued (solely UK, Solely Europe, Office outside of Europe)?
3. The number of non-accredited certificates issued for the standard and into which countries?
4. The date by which you envisage your clients being ready for
   a. A Stage 1 audit
   b. A Stage 2 audit
5. Details of how you scope the certifications and please provide some example certificates. This will assist in the development and implementation of accreditation in this potential new area.

Please note that if a development project was established a pilot programme will be required whereby there would be a development fee associated with participation in addition to the normal assessment fees. An expression of interest does not constitute an application, or the acceptance of an application for this accreditation.

Those organisations that have sent an expression of interest for the pilot project by the deadline of 17th March 2024 will be invited to attend the meeting of interested parties in April 2024. Depending on the numbers expressing interest, it may be necessary to restrict the number of delegates attending from each organisation.

Please note that attendance at this meeting is a requirement for those interested in participating in the pilot project. If you are unable to send a representative, please send apologies so that we are aware of your continued interest.
