Leanie Du Toit is Chair-elect of the BSI Occupational Health and Safety Technical Committee

Head of UKAS’s Corporate, Certification and Verification Section, Leanie Du Toit, will succeed Martin Cottam as Chair of the BSI (British Standards Institution) Technical Committee for Occupational Health and Safety Management (ISO/TC 283).

BSI will formally nominate Leanie to take over from Martin as Chair on 1 May 2025 and, in the meantime, they will work together to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.

Leanie is an IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) Chartered Fellow who has more than 25 years’ professional experience in the industry, working in complex manufacturing and engineering environments, emergency services, higher education and the energy sector.

She is currently Chair of the BSI OH&S Standards Committee and is a member of the ISO/TC 283 Chair’s Advisory Group.

Speaking about her appointment, Leanie says: “I am honoured to be stepping into this role and do not take the responsibility lightly. I’m looking forward to collaborating with my fellow committee members to ensure a successful transition. Together we will continue building on the incredible work of this committee, shaping the future of global OH&S standards.”
