UKAS has welcomed the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) as its most recent Member.
As a company limited by guarantee, UKAS does not have shareholders and is governed by its Members. There are now 21 UKAS Members, including the SMMT, which are drawn from government, business, professional institutes, and customer groups, all with an interest in accreditation.
Other UKAS Members include the Confederation of British Industry, Association for Innovation, Research and Technology Organisations, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Association of British Certification Bodies, and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. Matt Gantley, UKAS’s Chief Executive, commented on SMMT’s appointment:
“In welcoming the SMMT as UKAS members we give further recognition to the automotive sector, traders and manufacturing, as a vital sector for the UK economy. The relationship between the two organisations is long standing, with SMMT having been a member of our Policy Advisory Forum for some years. UKAS is now delighted to cement our collaboration with SMMT further, enabling the voice of the UK automotive industry to be integrated fully into UKAS governance.”
Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said, “SMMT is delighted to become a member of UKAS, an organisation with which we have an excellent relationship. Many of our member companies rely on national accreditation to underpin a range of product, system and laboratory certification schemes, designed to provide customer confidence in products and services. We look forward to working together to add the voice of the UK automotive sector in shaping UKAS’ direction and services.”
