UKAS Assessment Manager

Background:

After gaining a degree in microbiology, Darren worked in shift-rota based laboratories before taking managerial positions across several disciplines. It was here that he gained an MSc in Quality and Management and, seeking further challenge, moved into quality management under ISO 9001, Total Quality Management (TQM) and the ‘Excellence Model’.

After experience in the international food sector and UK power industry, he returned to working in laboratories. He enjoyed taking part in his company’s ISO 17025 assessment so much, he moved to a new role as a Regional Assessor within Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA) Ltd, and later as an Assessment Manager for UKAS.

Experience:

Having joined UKAS in 2007, Darren is a highly experienced Assessment Manager and Lead Assessor of medical laboratories and Proficiency Testing Providers across the length and breadth of the UK. He is also the UKAS Technical Focus Person for ISO/IEC 17043.

Darren has expert knowledge of the requirements of ISO 15189 and ISO 17043, and has worked on the development and implementation of several UKAS training courses.

When not working:

When not focused on the accreditation world, Darren has another world of model-making for fantasy wargames, dioramas, and scale railways.

In the real world, his family occasionally misses him and asks him to come home for dinner before it gets cold!
