This is the first in a series of three modules intended to enable an understanding of conformity assessment schemes (CAS) and the importance of these schemes within accredited conformity assessment activity.

Note – The second module in the series can be found here and Module 3 can be found here: Part A, Part B, Part C. Where reference is made to these modules, it is to highlight that there will be follow-up and expansion of those points in subsequent modules. 

The ‘scope’ of the modules is limited currently to inspection and certification schemes relating to the certification of persons, products, processes and services.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand and apply the fundamentals for conformity assessment schemes.
  • Explain the importance of the scheme in accredited conformity assessment activity.
  • Determine if the object of conformity assessment (e.g. the product, the process, the service, the person) satisfies the requirements within the specified scheme.

  • What is a CAS?
  • Where does a CAS fit in with accredited conformity assessment activity?
  • Is the CAS valid? Does it matter?
  • CAS ownership – who owns the scheme, and does it matter?

This course is expected to take approximately one hour to complete.
