Key updates and critical changes for medical laboratory services, outlining the transition considerations of ISO 15189:2022 from ISO 15189:2012, including, but not limited to; the focus on clinical utility, obligations to the patient and risk management.
This highly interactive blended course (1 day classroom and approx 1 day coursework) is designed for organisations planning to undertake the transition to the new version of ISO 15189 (2022) for medical laboratory examination and testing. This event will support learners in their understanding of the new standard relating to the competence and quality of Medical Laboratories.
This course is split into three sections:
Part One – Self-directed eLearning module (mandatory completion required prior to access to trainer-led sessions), taking approximately four hours to complete
Part Two – One-day trainer-led face-to-face/virtual workshop
Part Three – Self-directed eLearning module including a post-course effectiveness check and further reflections to consolidate your learning, taking approximately three hours to complete. This module is not mandatory but is recommended, as it further expands on other requirements not covered in detail during the trainer-led session.

NOTE: This transition training course focuses on critical changes from the 2012 version of ISO 15189 to the new 2022 edition. It is not suitable for organisations and customers without experience and knowledge of the previous requirements within ISO 15189:2012.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Complete their gap analysis for ISO 15189:2022, taking into account the major changes identified and discussed as well as the key considerations.
- Evaluate their existing risk management system against the ISO 15189:2022 requirements to determine if it is fit for purpose.
- Consider their relationships with patients and users and determine if these are effective in supporting the development of their service, as well as demonstrating conformity with the requirements of ISO 15189:2022.
Learners who complete this training will be able to attend our free post-course drop-in sessions to support their learning. The hour-long virtual sessions run monthly and can be attended as many times as required to ask our training team any post-course questions.

Learners will need access to both the ISO 15189:2012 and ISO 15189:2022 standards, either electronic or hard copy. Standards can be purchased from BSI or ISO.
Completion of a self directed Part 1 eLearning module (approximately four hours in duration) is mandatory for this course.

Learners will need access to two computer screens for group exercises if attending a virtual course.
Learners will be required to complete the online pre-course learning and submit an assignment in advance of attending the trainer-led element of this blended course. Learners responsible for ensuring that approximately four hours are dedicated to this activity prior to attending the instructor-led session.
NOTE: If the pre-course submission is not completed at least one week in advance of the course start date, the learner will not be permitted to access the instructor-led session and the standard terms and conditions of transfer/cancellation will apply

Once you have successfully completed Medical Laboratories – ISO 15189:2022 Transition course, you will receive a certificate of attendance as well as a digital badge which can be shared on social media to showcase your new skills to your network.
Successful completion of the Medical Laboratories – ISO 15189:2022 Transition course will require your completion of the pre-course work, full attendance and active participation during the trainer-led session and taking the post-course online learning and knowledge check. Activities to check learners’ understanding will often be scheduled after key topics during the trainer-led session, but there is no final exam.

Blended learning combines self-directed eLearning with trainer-led sessions, in a seamless learning flow. This allows the learner flexibility in completing ‘part one’ of the course and ensures all learners enter the trainer-led session with the same knowledge of the foundational principles to be further explored and expanded upon during the course.
This blended course also includes additional content, reflection exercises and quizzes after the trainer-led session, designed to consolidate the delegate’s learning and enhance knowledge retention.
